A Scenic Train Ride and Wilderness Hike in the Heart of Alaska
Experience the Best of Skagway’s Backcountry on this Exclusive Adventure
This tour combines a stunning 27.7-mile rail journey aboard the Historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, known as “The Scenic Railway of the World,” with a 5-mile round-trip wilderness hike through the breathtaking old-growth forest of Denver Valley.
Your adventure begins with a scenic train ride tracing portions of the legendary Trail of ’98, climbing up and over White Pass Summit. Along the way, marvel at cascading waterfalls, rushing rivers, towering trestles, and historic tunnels, all while retracing the footsteps of gold rush pioneers.
After disembarking at Denver Station, your expert wilderness guides will equip you with gear and a safety briefing before leading you into the untouched beauty of the Tongass National Forest—the largest temperate rainforest in the world.
A Personalized, All-Inclusive Hiking Experience
With no more than six guests per guide, this intimate tour ensures you receive personalized attention and expert insight into the flora, fauna, and history of the region. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the delicate ecosystems of the Tongass National Forest and the unique geology of the valley.
To make your experience stress-free, we provide:
- Rain gear, extra warm layers, sunblock, and bug repellent
- A lumbar pack with snacks and water
- Top-tier customer service from highly trained wilderness guides
Your adventure concludes with a comfortable bus ride back to Skagway, giving you time to relax and reflect on this unforgettable experience.
Hike Through the Untamed Beauty of Denver Valley
Follow a glacially carved valley where Western Hemlock and Sitka Spruce trees—some over 1,000 years old—tower above you. The trail parallels the roaring East Fork of the Skagway River, offering plenty of stops for photography, reflection, and wildlife viewing. Keep your camera ready—you may encounter bears, moose, mountain goats, and other Alaskan wildlife in this remote setting.
From the valley floor, take in the jaw-dropping views of the Sawtooth Mountains, whose 7,000-foot peaks rise dramatically above you—making this valley deeper than the Grand Canyon.
For those seeking an extra challenge, strong hikers may even gain a distant view of the Denver Glacier, a true highlight of this backcountry journey.
